Chemistry World highlights Galán-Mascarós’ team research

A promising water oxidation catalyst based on Prussian Blue

Galán-Mascarós’ research group has designed a novel class of heterogeneous water oxidation catalysts (WOCs) based on Prussian blue-type cobalt hexacyanoferrate (CoHCF).

Their latest paper published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS) reports the catalytic activity found in Co-Fe Prussian Blue Coordination Polymers.

The water oxidation catalytic activity achieved by (CoHCF)-modified electrodes competes with state-of-the-art metal oxide catalysts.

Additionally, the Prussian blue-based catalyst is made from Earth-abundant metal ions in aqueous solution, it is transparent , flexible and it works at neutral pH and ambient conditions.

These features make Galán-Masacarós team’s catalyst a promising WOC candidate for its use in artificial photosynthetic devices.

This research has been covered by Chemistry World, the print and online magazine of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the largest organisation in Europe for advancing the chemical sciences.
